アートディレクター後 智仁とゲームクリエイター西川俊也氏のアートユニット「Tekuila」による作品「シャケ・ベア」。
2011年のミラノサローネに出品され話題になったアートピースです。
『僕らが子供の頃は、日本の多くの家に置かれていた民芸品のクマ。北海道に昔からあるシャケをくわえたヒグマの木彫りである。おそらく、当時まだ珍しかったあこがれの土地北海道に行った証であり、記念の品であり、「ウチ北海道旅行に行ったことあります。いいでしょ。」と言葉には発しなくとも他人に自慢してくれるスポークスマン的存在だったのでしょう。
原点は、スイスにも同じような熊の木彫りの民芸品があり、それが日本の北海道に冬の間、農場でお金を稼ぐ手段として伝わり、民芸品として定着したという説もあります。
当時、東京に住んでいた後の家の玄関にも堂々と、北海道旅行に行ったこともないのにも関わらず飾られており、広島に住んでいた西川の家にもありました。
そんな民芸品界のスーパースターであったクマも今では、住環境の欧米化が進んだことによってめっきり目にすることができなくなってしまいました。
そんな人間の勝手なリビングスタイルの変化によって絶滅に瀕しているクマを救うためのプロジェクト。
現代のリビングにシャケをくわえた熊を甦らせるプロジェクトがこのshake bearなのです。』
『In our Childhood,the folkcraft bears with salmon,can be seen in many houses in japan,which are traditional wood corving souvenirs of Hokkaido. Perhaps,the bears are proofs and mementos of trip to the yearning place Hokkaido at that time and these objects might have represented want of travelling to exotic Hokkaido. It is said that these folkcrafts originated in Switzerland and its idea spread to the farms in Hokkaido to earn meney during winter season.
Needless to say,there was also a bear sitting in the Ushiro's entrance hall in Tokyo and Nishikawa's house in Hiroshima.
Nowadays we rarely can see a bear as a superstar of the folkcrafts because of weaternized style of living.It has become an archaic object.
This project is to save the bear craft which is in danger of extinction by man's selfish way of living.
Reviving the bear with salmon into your house is the "shake bear" project.』
